Timber Staircases – Victorian Ash
Victorian Ash is the trade name of two large Australian hardwoods that can be used for timber framing, internal applications and furniture. Victorian Ash takes its name from the fact that it grows in the alpine areas of Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales. Usually Victorian Ash has a straight grain but may also produce fiddleback markings and have visible gum veins.
Timber Staircases – Blackbutt
Blackbutt is a commonly grown hardwood that has attractive colouring from cream to pale brown, sometimes with a slight tinge of pink. Its grain is usually straight and it’s texture is medium and even. Blackbutt can be stained or polished.
Blackbutt is one of the highest value timbers and is predominantly grown in the north coast of NSW, called the Northern Region. It is also common in coastal forests, from Southern Queensland to Southern NSW.
Timber Staircases – Brush Box
Brushbox has long been sought after for its unique properties and aesthetic qualities. It has a fine and even texture with a beautiful, rich colour. It can vary from pale, pinkish-grey to rich reddish-brown. It is used for a variety of applications including flooring, staircases, cladding and bridge decking.
Brushbox is a medium to large sized Australian hardwood that grow along the edges of the rainforest areas of the central coast of New South Wales to Bowen in Queensland.

It’s distinctive colour varies from soft pinks to dark pinks and reddish-browns. It is widely used in general constructions for flooring, staircases, furniture and joinery.
Timber Staircases – Grey Ironbark
Grey Ironbark ranges from reddish to dark brown in colour. The grain is usually tight and straight and no distinctive figure is encountered.
Grey Ironbark is a premium native Australian hardwood with a wide range of applications. Grey Ironbark has been well regarded as a high quality timber in Australia. It is particularly hard, strong and durable with a broad range of applications due to its resistance to lyctid and termites.
Timber Staircases – Spotted Gum
Spotted Gum is a premium Australian hardwood that is used widely in structural, exterior and internal applications. Spotted Gum is a very attractive and durable hardwood used in flooring, lining, decking, cladding and staircases.
